The Charlotte Area Transit Systems (CATS) and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department will hold a community workshop from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Oasis Shriners Center, 604 Doug Mayes Place. According to CATS, this workshop will provide an overview on the construction of the LYNX Blue Line Extension and collect input about the University City Area Plan Update.

Transgendered actress and award-winning activist Laverne Cox will discuss her life story during the presentation “Ain’t I a Woman: My Journey to Womanhood” at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.

Investigative artist and former UNC Charlotte professor Caroline Rust will have the exhibit “Standing in the Silent Pool: An Investigation of the Internal Lives of Women” displayed in the Student Union Art Gallery from Wednesday, Feb. 5, through Wednesday, Feb. 26. There will be a free, public reception for the exhibit at 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6.

Henrique Oliveira, a Brazilian artist  known for creating monumental installations and currently building an installation in UNC Charlotte Center City’s Projective Eye Gallery, will be a guest on WFAE’s “Charlotte Talks.” He will appear with Crista Cammaroto, director of galleries for the College of Arts + Architecture. The program will air live at 9 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 23.

During February, the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) will host a series of events to increase awareness of African American Heritage Month.

Sex therapist Daniel Packard will answer questions and uncover secrets as part of a “Live Group Sex Therapy” scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The Department of Music Faculty & Friends Concert Series will present the Faculty Jazz Quintet at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the Belk Theater of the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts. The quintet, comprised of Will Campbell, saxophone; Mike Hackett, trumpet; Noel Freidline, piano; Ron Brendle, bass; and Rick Dior, drums; will perform a tribute to pianist Horace Silver.

The Giving Green spirit lives throughout the year, and to find out more about the Giving Green Community Volunteer Launch, the campus community is invited to a dessert reception at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, in Cone University Center, Room 210.

The Division for University Advancement will host a retirement reception for Marian Lambert from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Harris Alumni Center at Johnson Glen.

Charlotte Venture Challenge, the business innovation competition, is accepting applications from early-stage entrepreneurial companies through Monday, March 3.

The Office of Academic Services offers free workshops to University advisors on a variety of topics. In February, faculty and staff academic advisors have three sessions available. Participants are requested to email academic services at academicservices@uncc.edu with the name of the session(s) they plan to attend.
