CATS to hold community workshop on light-rail extension, University City Plan

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

The Charlotte Area Transit Systems (CATS) and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department will hold a community workshop from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Oasis Shriners Center, 604 Doug Mayes Place.

According to CATS, this workshop will provide an overview on the construction of the LYNX Blue Line Extension and collect input about the University City Area Plan Update.

Currently, construction crews are moving utility lines along North Tryon Street; this month, work begins to relocate water lines.

CATS officials anticipate work to begin on clearing and widening the light-rail pathway in March along the entire route of the extension. Spokesperson Judy Dellert-O’Keef, in an interview with WSOC-TV, said people can expect to see a lot more construction along the alignment with more barrels and equipment.

The 9.3 mile CATS Blue Line Extension Project is expected to be finished in 2017.
