Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx has proclaimed October “UNC Charlotte Cyber Security Awareness Month.” This declaration comes as UNC Charlotte’s College of Computing and Informatics hosts its 13th Annual Cyber Security Symposium on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Commencement speakers and bell ringers are needed for UNC Charlotte’s winter commencement, which is Saturday, Dec. 15, in Halton Arena, located in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center. Faculty and staff are requested to encourage students graduating in December to apply for one of these positions. One speaker and bell ringer will be selected for each ceremony.
The College of Arts + Architecture and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library will partner to present “Spirits Rise: A Ghost Film Series.” It is inspired by two books by Department of Theatre professor Mark Pizzato “Ghosts of Theatre and Cinema in the Brain” and “Inner Theatres of Good and Evil: The Mind’s Staging of Gods, Angels and Devils.”
The College of Arts + Architecture’s Department of Art and Art History will host exhibitions featuring works by guest artists Jennifer Meanley and Rian Kerrane in the Rowe Arts Building Galleries starting Monday, Oct. 8. An opening reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Derek Raghavan, an internationally renowned cancer researcher, medical oncologist and president of the Levine Cancer Institute, will serve as the keynote speaker for the 11th annual Charlotte Life Sciences Conference.
In October, UNC Charlotte will observe Disability Awareness and LGBTQ History months. The Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) has developed a diverse set of programs and events that celebrate the achievements of and build awareness about LGBTQ and differently abled individuals and communities.
Salgado Maranhão, one of Brazil’s leading contemporary poets, will give a talk on rural poverty and race in his country and deliver a reading from one of his works on Thursday, Oct. 11.
“Resources for University Researchers Considering Commercialization” is the topic of a seminar series scheduled for 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the Bioinformatics Building, Room 217.
Daniel Vogel, associate director for the Center for Energy, Environment and Sustainability at Wake Forest University, will present “What is the Business Case for Sustainability?” at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, in the Cameron Applied Research Center, Room 101.
