UNC Charlotte has established Project Mosaic, an initiative that will be led by Knight Foundation Distinguished Professor Jean-Claude Thill to enhance the University’s social and behavioral science research. The divisions of Academic Affairs and Research and Economic Development are funding the campus-wide effort, which will be housed in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.

International Education Week is Monday, Nov. 18, through Friday, Nov. 22, and the University will observe this period through special programming, lectures, presentations and other events to emphasize the campus’ commitment to global and international understanding.

The Office of Parent and Family Services in the Division for Student Affairs has invited parents and family members to campus for a Fall Family Festival on Saturday, Nov. 9. Attendees will participate in a wide variety of events, including a pre-football game tailgate with the Alumni Association and a viewing party to watch the Charlotte 49ers take on the Wesley College Wolverines.

The University’s Even Higher Education campaign to increase awareness of UNC Charlotte’s graduate offerings has resulted in an interesting request from an HIV specialist in India.

Three master’s-level students are the winners of the 2013 Graduate Student Photo Competition. More than 50 entries were submitted for this annual contest sponsored by the Center for Graduate Life and the Graduate School. 

Lt. Brian Thomas from the Department of Police and Public Safety discussed the University’s evacuation plans and what the campus community needs to know about emergency preparedness on the recent edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast.

Junior Kendyl Messer is the inaugural recipient of the Daisy Pearl Pugh Urban Scholarship. The honor was presented during Tuesday’s CONE-vocation in the Cone University Center Lucas Room.

The UNC Charlotte Alumni Association is honoring eight individuals for embodying the core principles of the University and distinguishing themselves through their outstanding service to the University, their chosen field and humanity. The 2013 awards will be presented at the Alumni Awards Banquet.

Aimee Parkison will share the story behind the captivating, imaginative book “The Innocent Party” at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall, as part of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Personally Speaking series. (Note this is a location change from the previously reported J. Murrey Atkins Library).

As part of International Education Week, the Iranian Student Organization will sponsor the event “Ferdowsi and Shahnameh” at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons.

Christine Todd Whitman, a former administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and governor of New Jersey, will present “Nuclear Energy and Its Role in America’s Energy Future” at 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, in EPIC, Room G256.
