International Education Week is Monday, Nov. 18, through Friday, Nov. 22, and the University will observe this period through special programming, lectures, presentations and other events to emphasize the campus’ commitment to global and international understanding.
A highlight of the observance will be a presentation by keynote speaker Saul Flores. A photojournalist, Flores walked 5,000 miles through 10 countries in South and Central America, many of which were featured in the five-week “Immigration Today Film and Discussion Forum.” In his talk, scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the Fretwell Building, Room 100, Flores will share the experience of his journey. The film and discussion series and Flores’ appearance are funded through the Chancellor’s Diversity grant.
In reference to International Education Week, Chancellor Philip Dubois said, “Our campus community has enjoyed a long and active tradition of supporting internationalization and exchange. Students, faculty, and staff are all encouraged to participate and recognize this important week of programming in celebration of the global village.”
The campus community is encouraged to participate in International Education Week events, which will involve language, culture, food, music, history and more. A number of campus units are participating, including Chartwells, the Department of Languages and Culture Studies, the Iranian Student Organization and the Mu Chapter of Phi Beta Delta.
