The McColl Center for Art + Innovation will celebrate its 15th anniversary with the presentation of “Arctic Utopia,” a major exhibition of mixed media sculptures, videos and site-specific installations by Marek Ranis, UNC Charlotte assistant professor of art and 1999 McColl Center alumnus.

Colleges and universities that receive federal funding must comply with regulations outlined in Title IX of the U.S. Education Amendments of 1972, which have been revised a number of times since their passage.

On the second floor of the Kennedy Building, two new classrooms are challenging faculty to better design and deliver courses that promote greater collaboration among students.

James Grymes, interim chair of music, will discuss his book "Violins of Hope: Instruments of Hope and Liberation in Mankind's Darkets Hour" on the Sept. 11 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast. He also will discuss the upcoming "Violins of Hope" event scheduled for Sept. 11 in Robinson Hall's Belk Theater.

The College of Arts + Architecture, in partnership with the UNC Charlotte Center for Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Studies, will present "Stories and Music from the Violins of Hope" on Thursday, Sept. 11, in the Belk Theater of the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts. The event will be available for live streaming starting at 7:20 p.m.

The Office of Academic Services is holding free workshops during September for University advisors on a number of topics. Prospective participants can complete an online form for session(s) they plan to attend.

“Can the Police Search Your Cell Phone?” is the topic for the annual Constitution Day panel discussion scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.

History, politics and social traditions can influence what people eat. Foodies, farmers, educators and advocates will explore “farm to table” and sustainability questions during the community discussion “Soul Food: A Contemporary and Historical Exploration of New South Food” on Thursday, Oct. 2, at UNC Charlotte Center City.

The third annual UNC Hispanic/Latino Faculty Forum will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 12-13, on the UNC Charlotte campus. The forum begins with a fiesta from 7 to 11 p.m., Sept. 12, in the UNC Charlotte Student Union, Room 340 D-I. There will be live music, dancing and refreshments.

The University will host a variety of activities in observance of the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Activities sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs include:

Effective Monday, Sept. 15, Heather Brown will become the executive director of the Women + Girls Research Alliance. According to academic affairs officials, Brown will lead the alliance to fully realize its mission to become a recognized authority in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County on issues affecting women and girls.
