The Department of Public Health Sciences in the College of Health and Human Services will host long-time public policy advocate and community organizer Vincent DeMarco, who will speak at 4 p.m., Monday, April 7, in the Student Union Theater.

UNC Charlotte Department of Music faculty members David Russell and Mira Frisch will be joined by three guest artists for a performance of music by J.S. Bach at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, in the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts, Belk Theater. This event is part of the department’s Faculty and Friends Concert Series.

UNC Charlotte’s Botanical Gardens will hold its annual Spring Plant Sale Friday and Saturday, April 18-19, at the McMillan Greenhouse.

Effective May 1, Chandra Williams will be interim director for Lab Animal Resources. The appointment was announced by the Research and Economic Development Office.

With the opening of PORTAL, Charlotte Research Institute officials have announced that Lester “Chip” Yensan will remain at CRI as associate director for infrastructure through the current calendar year.

The rock ‘n’ roll, coming-of-age musical “Spring Awakening” will be presented Thursday, April 10, through Wednesday, April 16, in the Black Box Theater of the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts. All performances of this Theatre Department production will be at 7:30 p.m., except Sunday, April 13, which will be a 2 p.m. matinee.

Throughout the month of April, the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) will recognize Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in a display located in the center's office in the Student Union. Other events sponsored by the center for April are: April 10 - “Safe Zone 2.0: Celebrating Safe Zone Partners”  at noon in Student Union, Room 267.

The recent Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Showcase featured 10 faculty research projects funded by the University’s SoTL grants program.

Meg Whalen, director of communications and external relations for the College of Arts + Architecture, will talk with Andrew Hartley, Robinson Distinguished Professor of Shakespeare, and James Vesce, department chair and associate professor of directing, about the upcoming theatre productions “Spring Awakening” and “The Shrew Project” on the April 1 segment of "The Live Wire," Inside UNC Charlot

Na Lu, an assistant professor in the Engineering Technology and Construction Management Department of the Lee College of Engineering, has won a $400,000 National Science Foundation CAREER award to further her research to develop cost-effective thermoelectric materials for high-temperature power generation through waste-heat harvesting.

Changes to the University’s Employee of the Year program were implemented this year resulting in five staff members being recognized at the annual Staff Recognition Luncheon, held Monday in the Student Union.
