Faculty and Friends concert to celebrate J.S. Bach

UNC Charlotte Department of Music faculty members David Russell and Mira Frisch will be joined by three guest artists for a performance of music by J.S. Bach at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, in the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts, Belk Theater. This event is part of the department’s Faculty and Friends Concert Series.

Russell is the Anne Belk Distinguished Professor of Violin, and Frisch is associate professor of cello. Guest artists are violist Sheila Browne, pianist Elizabeth DeMio and violist Richard Fleischman. The program for the April 9 concert will include Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 3 and 6, Viola da Gamba Suite No. 1 in G Major, Air from Orchestral Suite No. 3 and other selections.

Local musicians Tanja Bechtler (cello), Rachel Rudoi (violin, Charlotte Symphony) and Eric Thompson (bass), as well as two UNC Charlotte violin students, will perform, too.

Guest artist Browne has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and principal of several orchestras worldwide. DeMio plays frequently with renowned soloists and has appeared in tours and given master classes throughout the United States, Korea, Mexico and the Caribbean.  Principal violist of the Santa Fe Opera since 1999, Fleischman is a former member of the San Francisco Symphony; he has received numerous honors in his 25-year career, most notably the Windsor Prize, personally awarded by Leonard Bernstein

Tickets for this Faculty and Friends Concert Series performance are $9 for general admission; $7 for seniors and UNC Charlotte faculty, staff and alumni; and $6 for all students and can be purchased online or by phone at 704-687-1849.
