Kelley appointed interim vice chancellor for Business Affairs

Lawrence "Larry" Kelley has been appointed interim vice chancellor for Business Affairs at UNC Charlotte effective March 15 and will serve until a permanent vice chancellor is chosen. He succeeds current interim vice chancellor Jesh Humphrey, who will return to his full-time duties as vice chancellor for Institutional Integrity and general counsel. 

In this role, Kelley is responsible for the University's fiscal management, facilities development and operation, human resources, public safety, business continuity and auxiliary services.

Prior to joining UNC Charlotte, Kelley was the executive vice president for finance and administration at the University of Toledo before retiring in March 2020. His long career in higher education also includes serving as the chief financial officer (CFO) for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and the University of Maine. He also held senior leadership roles at Georgia State University, Kent State, Miami University and the University of Akron, where he began his career in higher education as a budget director after several years in private industry and public education. He most recently served as interim senior advisor and chief financial officer at the College of Charleston. 

In addition to his work profile, Kelley has authored numerous articles and held leadership roles with the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and served as a member of the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) and EDUCAUSE. 

He holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in technical education/educational finance from the University of Akron. In addition to completing doctoral coursework in higher education, Kelley holds multiple leadership certifications and diplomas.
