UNC Charlotte faculty and staff can support Niner Nation and the greater community by participating in the 2020 Giving Green campaign, which runs Wednesday, Oct. 14, through Friday, Nov. 13, and will benefit the Arts & Science Council (ASC), the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) and the UNC Charlotte Foundation.

This year’s co-chairs for the annual campus-wide initiative are Sequina DuBose, assistant professor of classical and contemporary voice in the College of Arts + Architecture, and Sujit Chemburkar, an associate vice chancellor in Student Affairs.

Sequina Dubose“I believe it is our responsibility to humanity and to our community to play an active role in making things better through volunteerism and philanthropy,” said DuBose. “I have always been taught that giving back is a true virtue and one that has a positive impact on both the giver and the one who receives. Giving Green is a vehicle for change and links service-minded individuals with the organizations and initiatives that speak to them.”

“The pandemic, long overdue movement for equality and difficult political discourse has me questioning every aspect of my values and who I am as a person,” said Chemburkar. “In the past few months, one source of inspiration and hope has been the University, our colleagues and the students we serve. I hope you can join me in giving some of your hard-earned time, talent and treasure to the Student Emergency Fund and/or the Employee Emergency Loan Fund.”Sujit Chemburkar

Faculty and staff members who support the campaign during the virtual kickoff on Oct. 14 will have 10 chances to win a five for $30 SoVi meal swipe, which will be loaded onto their University ID cards, and 49 chances to win $4.49, which will be credited to their optional dining account for use across campus.

Employees are encouraged to make a donation using the Giving Green website, which goes live at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, to help stretch their contributions across the upcoming calendar year through payroll deduction.

In addition to making a gift to Giving Green, faculty and staff will have an opportunity to make a difference through community outreach and service by helping to assemble toiletry kits and pencil packs for local organizations with volunteer at home kits.
