Chancellor holds first news conference

Thursday, August 13, 2020

Sharon L. Gaber continues to settle into her new role as UNC Charlotte’s fifth chancellor, meeting daily with folks from all over campus, city and community leaders, elected officials, and representatives from the UNC System. On Wednesday, Aug. 12, she met with representatives from the local media for the first time.

Reporters and other media reps gathered at Hauser Alumni Pavilion where Gaber fielded questions on a variety of topics. She outlined the top priorities for the University, expressing her desire for UNC Charlotte to achieve R1 research designation, and to further strengthen the University’s connection to the greater-Charlotte region.

The media was most interested, however, in the University’s return-to-campus plan, including campus safety as well as other COVID-related topics.
