Incident briefly locks down UNC Charlotte Center City

At approximately 9:25 a.m., Jan. 31, there was a report of gunshots being fired in the 300 block of E. 9th Street. Two shots hit UNC Charlotte Center City, and the building was placed on lockdown immediately.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety both responded to the scene. According to CMPD, upon arrival, officers spoke with several witnesses who stated they heard gunfire from the intersection of N. Brevard and E. 9th Street

It is believed the shots were fired from a moving vehicle that quickly left the vicinity. Police do not believe anyone involved with the incident is associated with the University.

No one inside the building was injured, and the lockdown was lifted at approximately 10:03 a.m. Main campus was not affected.
