Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday are all about shopping. But Giving Tuesday is about sharing.
#GivingTuesday, Nov. 27, is a global day dedicated to giving and showing generosity to others through service, and UNC Charlotte wants to celebrate the day by helping veterans to succeed in obtaining their education. This year, the University is asking alumni and friends to help upgrade the technology in the Cpl. Robert Qutub USMC Veterans Lounge in Barnard Hall.
UNC Charlotte, founded as the Charlotte Center in 1946, was established to educate WWII veterans. Today, the University enrolls more than 900 veteran and military-affiliated students. The recently renovated lounge provides a safe space for these students to gather to study, relax and participate in group discussions. Upgrades such as a printer and other supplies will help veteran students work more effectively in a collaborative space.
The campus community and greater public can contribute to a crowdfunding campaign to help pay for the technology upgrades.
Also, as part of #GivingTuesday, faculty, staff and students will have the opportunity to write notes to United States service members who are unable to spend the holiday season at home with their families. Notes can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Nov. 27, at four locations on campus: the EPIC building, Popp Martin Student Union, SoVi dining hall and the lawn near Cato Hall.
