Kirsti Kauppi, ambassador of Finland to the United States, will present “Transatlantic Relations: A Finnish Perspective” at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the Cone University Center, Room 208, as part of the Fall 2018 International Speaker Series.
Kauppi, who assumed her current position in 2015, began her career in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in 1983. Between 1983 and 2015, Kauppi served in a number of capacities, including with the Finnish Permanent Mission to the European Union in Brussels (1993-97) and Bangkok (1989-92). She was the Finnish governor and vice chair of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Board of Governors, deputy chief of mission in Berlin and foreign representative of Finland in Washington, D.C., (1997 to 2000).
Additionally, Kauppi served as Finnish ambassador to Austria (2005), advisor to the state secretary and political director in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki (2000-03) and director general for Africa and the Middle East (2009-12).
