Student affairs staff stake claim to charitable giving

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

At its recent planning meeting, the Division for Student Affairs staked its claim to community engagement as more than 264 staff members donated school supplies to Classroom Central, a nonprofit organization serving more than 100,000 students living in poverty in  200-plus schools in six local school districts.

Classroom Central enables qualifying teachers and other school personnel a place to "shop" for free school supplies throughout the academic year. These supplies are used to create an inviting learning environment while supporting the students' academic and personal growth, according to Classroom Central officials.

Classroom Central director of development Amy Davis delivered a short presentation on the various services provided to these students in need.  She spoke about how new school supplies built confidence in the students.
