UNC Charlotte representatives and other panelists will discuss “Heart and Soul: What the Health of the Black American Male Means to the Entire Community” at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 19, at UNC Charlotte Center City.
This discussion is the fourth event in the ongoing “Real Talk: A Community Conversation – The Black American Male and Why He Still Matters in the 21st Century,” being presented by the Gantt Center and the University’s Center for the Study of the New South in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
Panelists for the Jan. 19 event are Lyndon Abrams, associate professor, Department of Counseling, UNC Charlotte; Antwan Alexander (’14) a law student at UNC Chapel Hill; Yele Aluko, senior vice president, Novant Heart and Vascular Services, and medical director, Novant Health Heart and Vascular Institute; Robert Jones, medical director, Student Health Center, UNC Charlotte; and Amadou Shakur, founder and director of the Center for the African Diaspora.
“Heart and Soul: What the Health of the Black American Male Means to the Entire Community” is a free, public event; however, RSVPs are requested online or by calling 704-687-6188 by Monday, Jan. 12.
Parking will be available for $5 in lots directly across Ninth Street and directly across Brevard Street from UNC Charlotte Center City.
The final two “Real Talk” conversations will be “Gone ‘til November: Why the Judicial System Fails the Black American Male” on April 23, and “I Am a Man! Black, Male and Gay” on May 21. Both events will be at UNC Charlotte Center City.
