University to observe #GivingTuesday Dec. 2

Friday, November 21, 2014

UNC Charlotte will join the national #GivingTuesday movement to encourage the 49er community to give back during this holiday season. #GivingTuesday is an effort to harness the collective power to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.

Taking place Dec. 2, #GivingTuesday will provide faculty, staff and students the chance to write a note to a U.S. service member. There will be three locations on campus, Student Union, Belk Tower and the lawn near Cato Hall, where anyone can stop by from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or individuals can stop by the Veterans Student Services Office in the Cone University Center, Room 346, to take blank notes for their classroom or office to participate.

#GivingTuesday is a counter narrative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, because it reminds individuals that the spirit of the holiday giving season should be about community and not just consumerism, said Kathy Calvin, CEO of the U.N. Foundation.
