Sign up for Miles to Wellness, walking challenge begins Sept. 22

The 2014 Miles to Wellness Pedometer Challenge will begin on Monday, Sept. 22. Sponsored by the Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Health and Wellness (ACCEHW), this event is open to all faculty and staff.

Individuals or teams can participate in this eight-week challenge; signups are through Wednesday, Sept. 17.

According to ACCEHW organizers, the Miles to Wellness walking program can help employees maintain a healthier lifestyle and stay motivated to meet their fitness goals. The first 200 participants who join the challenge will receive a pedometer to use.

Prizes will be given to teams (most average steps per person, most improved team and most spirited team) and individuals (top three beginning, intermediate and advanced participants). Email questions to Meghan Kusper (mkusper1@uncc.edu).

The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness was formed to:

  • Identify, recommend and promote programs and services that emphasize healthy behaviors, including but not limited to nutritional, emotional and physical well-being; foster a campus culture supportive and encouraging of healthy behaviors and choices
     
  • Increase awareness, knowledge and skills important to improving and maintaining health and supportive of the University’s mission
     
  • Assess regularly the quality of campus wellness activities and programs, identify unmet needs and resource issues and recommend options to senior administration
