The Graduate School has issued a call for nominations for the 2014 Graduate Dean's Master's Thesis Award, which recognizes outstanding work by a master's student in each of the following areas:
- Math, Physical Sciences and Engineering (one award)
(Physics, Chemistry (excluding Biochemistry), Astronomy, Atmospheric Sciences, Geology, Earth Sciences, Metallurgy, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Sciences and Engineering)
- Humanities and Fine Arts (one award)
(History, Classics, Comparative Literature, Linguistics, Speech, American Studies, Archeology, Art, Music, Philosophy, Theology, Religion, Theater, Language, Literature and Architecture)
Faculty may nominate a student whose thesis has been accepted in partial fulfillment of master's degree requirements during the past two academic years and/or summer sessions (fall 2012 through summer 2014). The categories for nomination rotate annually for the Graduate Dean's Master's Thesis Award.
Winners will receive a $200 prize and plaque. Also, their theses will be submitted to the regional Conference of Southern Graduate School competition. Winners of the regional competition will receive $1,000 plus travel expenses to New Orleans for the 2015 CSGS meeting, where the award will be presented.
The deadline for submissions is Monday, Oct. 20. Submitters should provide:
- A web link to an electronic thesis, an electronic thesis submitted by email or CD
- Letters of endorsement from the major professor and either the director of graduate Studies, dean or the dean's designee.
- Certification by the graduate dean or designee that the thesis was approved in partial fulfillment of requirements for the master's degree within the past two academic years and/or summer sessions (fall 2012 through summer 2014). To be completed by the Graduate School staff once submitted
- An abstract of the thesis (one to two pages, double-spaced), prepared by the nominee
- A brief resume or CV on the nominee (one to two pages)
