Fall semester always is an exciting time as a new academic year gets under way at UNC Charlotte. More than 30,000 students, faculty and staff will be on campus engaged in research, scholarly or life-enriching pursuits. This includes an incoming freshman class of about 3,350 and roughly 2,700 transfer students.
Approximately 5,500 students are moving into their campus homes Friday, Aug. 15, through Sunday, Aug. 17. Helpful information about living on campus is on the University’s Move-In website. On Friday, faculty and staff members should anticipate more traffic and plan accordingly when entering/exiting campus for lunch or other errands. Campus police will direct traffic Friday and Saturday.
At the start of the academic year, vehicular traffic on campus is heavier typically as parking permit pickup is occurring and new students are navigating their way around to locate parking lots and decks. This year, several hundred additional commuter students are expected.
Parking enforcement begins Monday, Aug. 18; so allow extra time when coming onto campus. Individuals without permits should use visitor parking in East 1, Cone, Union, CRI and South Village Parking Decks. Also, expect to see a number of shuttles on campus to accommodate students living in University City hotels; several new apartment complexes designed specifically for UNC Charlotte students are running behind schedule, and the complexes are providing off-campus accommodations for them.
Classes begin Monday, Aug. 18, with the annual University Convocation set for Tuesday, Aug. 19, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. University Convocation is an opportunity for the campus community to learn more about the University’s short- and long-term goals and plans.
