Monday, August 4, 2014

Shaoting Zhang, an assistant professor in the College of Computing and Informatics Department of Computer Science, has received a 2014 Ralph E. Power Junior Faculty Enhancement Award.  Presented by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU),  the award provides seed money for research by junior faculty at ORAU member institutions. These awards are intended to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities.

Zhang’s research interests include the design of large-scale and interactive data analytics algorithms for medical imaging and healthcare applications. This research will significantly impact knowledge discovery in medical image databases that are growing rapidly in size and complexity, and enable novel methods of analysis at much larger scales in an efficient, integrated fashion. These proposed methods will provide useable tools to assist clinicians’ diagnoses and support efficient, medical image data management.
