Explore the great outdoors through Venture trips

Whether looking for a walk in the woods or some fun on a lake, UNC Charlotte’s Venture outdoor education program has the right summer trip. Led by experienced outdoor facilitators, Venture trips are open to UNC Charlotte students, faculty, staff and the general public.

All trips require a mandatory pre-trip meeting to review the itinerary, safety precautions and for participants to meet their companions.  Typically, all equipment and transportation are provided by Venture.

SUMMER 2014 TRIPS

South Mountains State Park Waterfall Day Hike
Saturday, July 19

Explore the peaks and waterfalls of North Carolina’s South Mountains State Park on this moderate day hike.  Participants will hike to Chestnut Knob Overlook and see downtown Charlotte in the distance, then visit High Shoals Falls – a waterfall dropping more than 80 feet.  Price: UNC Charlotte students $19/ faculty, staff, alumni $33 /community members $56

Lake Jocassee Flatwater Kayak and Camp
Friday, July 25 - Sunday, July 27

Lake Jocassee is situated in a pristine mountain environment in the upstate of South Carolina.  Participants will depart campus in the afternoon, camp out on the shores of the lake for the first evening, paddle through the crystal clear water and explore waterfalls on the second day, camp out at a remote boat-in only campsite for the second evening and then spend another day on the water before returning to campus.  No experience is necessary as the pre-trip meeting includes one introductory pool kayak session to help prepare participants for their time on the water.  Price: UNC Charlotte students $75 /faculty, staff, alumni $98/community members $130
