Audio version of Hartley’s ‘Hamlet’ released

“Hamlet, Prince of Denmark,” a novelization of Shakespeare’s tragedy by Robinson Distinguished Professor of Shakespeare Andrew Hartley and co-author David Hewson, was released recently in audiobook format by Audible Inc.

 The work, which has received prominent media attention, is narrated by British actor Richard Armitage, who plays Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” trilogy. Hamlet is the second novelization that Hartley and Hewson have created. Macbeth, released by Audible in 2011 was a reading by actor Alan Cumming. It was nominated for an Audie Award. The work was released in print in May 2012.

An article by the Associated Press announcing the audiobook appeared in 200 media outlets, including the San Francisco Chronicle and Washington Post. The release was feature in the Wall Street Journal, too.  

Hartley’s academic books include “The Shakespearean Dramaturg” (Palgrave 2006), “Julius Caesar” (Shakespeare in Performance series, Manchester UP 2013),” Shakespeare and Political Theatre” (Palgrave 2013) and “Shakespeare on the University Stage” (Cambridge UP 2014). In addition, he is the best-selling author of a dozen mystery, thriller and fantasy novels for adults and young readers.
