Atkins Library’s Wilder headed to LSU

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Stanley Wilder, University librarian, has been named the dean of Louisiana State University Libraries; he will assume this position on July 1.

“Stanley has done an exceptional job for UNC Charlotte during his tenure at Atkins,” said Joan Lorden, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.  “We will miss his leadership and vision.”

According to LSU, Wilder was selected following a national search. He joined UNC Charlotte in 2009 after serving as assistant and associate dean at the University of Rochester for 10 years. He also spent 10 years at LSU Libraries, first as assistant to the dean for administrative services and later as assistant dean for technical services.

During his time at UNC Charlotte, Wilder is credited with spearheading reconfiguration of Atkins Library space to support greater student collaboration. In 2013, nearly 20,000 square feet of the library was renovated to create seven group study rooms of varying sizes. The rooms have video conferencing capability and multiple large-screen displays along with enterprise software that enables students to extend their laptops’ capabilities and better share their work with others.

Wilder also has been instrumental in broadening the library’s use of open access, a program to provide free online access to the results of academic research.
