The Student Union, Activities and Recreation (SUAR) Department will hold a retirement reception in honor of Jerry Mann from 3 to 5 p.m., Friday, May 9, in the Student Union Art Gallery Lounge.
Mann, executive director for the Student Union and Cone University Center, is retiring after six years with UNC Charlotte. He was instrumental in the opening of the Student Union. Since joining UNC Charlotte in 2008, Mann has managed construction teams, transition planning, facilities management, auxiliary partnerships, staff hiring and development, and marketing and communication initiatives. Mann also established the Student Union Advisory Board and implemented student employee training and development for more than 100 new student employee positions.
Mann recently received the Honorary Membership Award for exceptional service from the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) through which he volunteered with the board of trustees and education council over the last two decades.
Prior to UNC Charlotte, Mann served as director of the Student Union for the University of California at Los Angeles for 13 years. He retires with nearly 33 years in student affairs and higher education.
