Employees participate in National Walking Day

Tuesday, April 8, 2014

Organizers for a recent National Walking Day event on campus characterized the turnout as great and have set a goal to start weekly walking groups for employees based upon the high participation.

The walk was sponsored by the Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness (ACCEHW). On the committee’s website, employees can vote for the best day(s) and time(s) for a campus walking group.

Research shows that each hour of regular exercise can add about two hours to a person’s life expectancy, even if an individual doesn’t become physically active until middle age.  The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of physical activity a week for adults and 60 minutes a day for children.
