Annual 49er B-ball challenge rescheduled

Monday, March 10, 2014

Inclement weather canceled the original date for the 49er B-ball Challenge, but on Wednesday, March 12, UNC Charlotte students will try to stake their claim as victors in this year’s contest.  Of course, the faculty/staff team could extend its winning streak to four consecutive games.

Doors for this year’s contest will open at 5 p.m., and the game will tip off at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by Student Activities, Resident Students Association (RSA) and Niner Nation Gold, the challenge will have games, activities, performances, refreshments, giveaways and an appearance by the Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball team.

Student Government Association President Brady Nails will coach the student team, while Arthur Jackson, vice chancellor for student affairs, leads the faculty and staff team on its quest of a four-game winning streak.

Judith Rowles, associate director of student activities for programs, encourages students to come out to “help represent and support their class to win bragging rights for the best attendance at the game.”

Four lucky students will have the chance to win $4,900 or $49,000 in a halftime competition.

While the students will have their class to help cheer them on, faculty and staff not playing in the game are encouraged to support the team by attending or becoming a cheerleader. Anyone interested in being a cheerleader for the faculty team should email Ayanna Morrison at amorris1@uncc.edu.
