Golfers will tee off for a good cause at the “On the Green” tournament, which has a 1 p.m. shotgun start on Friday, April 25, at the Rocky River Golf Club in Concord.
All proceeds from this annual event support the P.J. Briggs Scholarship fund. Registration for the tournament is limited to 144 spots and is open through Wednesday, April 16.
Event participants will receive range balls, entry to the putting contest, lunch and a “goody” bag. At the event, there will be door prize drawings, contests and raffles open to the public.
The P.J. Briggs Scholarship is a $4,000 award given to a rising junior or senior who is involved in recreational services, maintains a 2.5 grade point average or higher and has a part-time job. Since 2004, Ken Briggs, P.J.’s father, has helped Recreational Services raise money for the scholarship in memory of his son who tragically lost his life in a car accident in 1993. The younger Briggs went to UNC Charlotte, worked with and participated in intramural sports and was involved with Lambda Chi Alpha.
Kemet Gatchell, assistant director for promotions and special events with recreational services, said, “‘On the Green’ is a great opportunity for everyone from students to staff to faculty to the community to interact in a fun tournament while raising money for a great cause.”
Last year, “On the Green” generated more than $6,000, and Gatchell said this year’s goal is to exceed that amount.
Registration is online. Player fees are: $25 for UNC Charlotte students, $45 for UNC Charlotte faculty and staff, $50 for UNC Charlotte alumni and $55 for community members.
