CAB to celebrate diversity with 'Holi Moli'

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Bright paint and water will fill the air during “Holi Moli,” a festival to celebrate the Hindu holiday of Holi at 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, on the recreation fields near the main entrance to campus. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is sponsoring this free, public program.

Holi is an Indian festival of color and love that signifies the first day of spring. As part of this celebration, participants splatter bright paint colors and water all over each other. It is the belief that the color protects people from the cold and other elements associated with the changing of seasons.

Students, faculty and staff will have the chance to embrace the Holi tradition with water guns and colors to celebrate the changing of seasons in a fun and exciting festival.

“Holi Moli is a great celebratory event that recognizes and celebrates diversity while also offering participants a great time,” said Elizabeth Curry, the lectures, education and diversity crew chief for CAB. “Multiculturalism and diversity are important aspects at UNC Charlotte, so it is important for CAB to recognize and celebrate different cultures.”

Curry explained, “CAB wanted to put on Holi Moli for the campus because of the widespread recognition and positive reactions that it received last year. It was one of the most popular events, and we thought it would be a great event to have annually.”
