Student Union to host ‘Sanskrit’ display

Thursday, February 27, 2014

Poems, short stories and art from the new edition of the student literary-arts magazine “Sanskrit” will be displayed in the Student Union Gallery from Wednesday, March 12, through Wednesday, April 2.

“Sanskrit” features a collection of poems, short stories and art from people all around the world, including UNC Charlotte students. Members of the magazine staff and UNC Charlotte professors selected the pieces for the exhibit.

Liz Walton, student art gallery coordinator, said the display is a refreshing look into works by local contemporary artists in a wide variety of media.

“This exhibit acknowledges the variety of methods artists use to create, whether it involves emerging and traditional visual art, or if it is expressed through written or spoken word,” Walton stated. “The methods will range from photography to painting to printmaking, and the reception will also incorporate spoken word.”

The gallery will host a reception for the display from 5 to 7 p.m., April 2. This event is free and open to the public; copies of the 2014 edition of “Sanskrit” will be available.

In 2013, “Sanskrit” received a Student Gold ADDY Award in the “collateral material” category from AAF Charlotte, a nonprofit professional trade association serving the Charlotte advertising community. It also received the 2013 Pacemaker Award presented by the Associate Collegiate Press Association.
