Noted culinary journalist, author Toni Tipton-Martin to speak

UNC Charlotte’s Center for the Study of the New South will host “An Evening with Toni Tipton-Martin” at 7 p.m., Monday, March 10, at the Levine Museum of the New South, as part of the series “Soul Food: A Contemporary and Historical Exploration of New South Food.”

Tipton-Martin is a culinary journalist, author of “The Jemima Code,” co-founder of the Southern Foodways Alliance and founder and executive director of the SANDE Youth Project. In her March 10 discussion, Tipton-Martin will talk about her research on some historical and contemporary African American cooks and chefs with roots in North Carolina. The accompanying traveling exhibit to her book “The Jemima Code” will be on display at the museum for the event.

UNC Charlotte’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund, the Office of Academic Affairs, the American Studies Program and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program are co-sponsoring this free, public event. Complimentary parking is available after 5 p.m. at the Seventh Street Station parking deck next to the museum. Attendees should bring the ticket to the museum for validation.
