UNC Charlotte has a partnership with four Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools that comprise Governor’s Village – Alexander Elementary, Morehead STEM Academy, Martin Middle and Vance High.
Faculty and staff volunteers are needed to serve as classroom “buddies,” readers and tutors at Alexander and Morehead. These opportunities involve helping students with daily assignments or reading with groups/individuals.
Volunteers are needed for one hour every other week. Two faculty/staff members will be assigned a class. A one-time training session will provide participants with the necessary information and satisfy CMS requirements.
UNC Charlotte employees receive 24 hours of community leave annually, which can be used for this effort.
Governor’s Village schools are located within two miles of the UNC Charlotte campus.
