Walsh to discuss ‘Ethnic Exclusion, Oil and Civil War’ for Project Mosaic brown bag

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

As part of the Project Mosaic Brown Bag Seminar series, James Walsh, political science and public administration, will talk about “Ethnic Exclusion, Oil and Civil War” at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Cone University Center, Room 348B.

Walsh and fellow researchers have investigated how natural resources relate to rebel forces in the developing world, which is considered crucial to U.S. national security policy. For this talk, Walsh will discuss the study of data on ethnic group political exclusion and geo-coded indicators of oil production and prices that indicated that while ethnic exclusion leads to civil war, petroleum production does not.

The Project Mosaic Brown Bag Seminar series is designed as a forum for informal presentations on topics of interest to social and behavioral scientists. Prospective speakers should email projectmosaic@uncc.edu.
