University advancement to launch ‘Green with Gratitude’

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

Philanthropy in the form of private support from alumni, parents and friends of the University benefits the entire campus community. To raise awareness for how philanthropy impacts current students, the Division for University Advancement is launching its “Green with Gratitude” initiative.

“Our goal is to educate students on the role that philanthropy plays at UNC Charlotte,” said Shelley Clayton, director of stewardship in University advancement. “Many of our current students have been touched by philanthropy – through scholarship support made possible by donors, particularly alumni, parents and others in the greater community; through upgraded classrooms and labs, a result of corporate and private gifts; or through cultural and educational offerings involving guest speakers and special performers not funded by state appropriations.”

To foster a spirit of philanthropy among students before graduation and encourage them to express their appreciation to the University’s dedicated and loyal donors, University advancement will sponsor Green with Gratitude happenings Monday-Thursday, Feb. 10-13. Events will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Monday, at the Student Union patio, students can stop by to write a thank you note to a UNC Charlotte donor and receive a sweet treat. Individuals can guess the alumni giving participation rate for 2013 and qualify for a prize.

Letters and Lattes will be Tuesday at the Belk Tower. Campus community members can stop by and thank a donor while enjoying hot chocolate or a warm, coffee treat. The number of donors who have given $1 million to the University is the daily guessing game.

Wednesday is Confection Affection at the Cato/Fretwell courtyard; students can write a thank you note and swipe a treat on the way to class. Make a guess on the number of individual donors who have given to the University for 15 or more years consecutively to qualify to win a prize.

Cards and Cookies will be Thursday on the Prospector Building patio; campus members can thank UNC Charlotte’s most-deserving donors and enjoy a 49er cookie. Make a guess on the number of current students who benefit from philanthropy at UNC Charlotte and qualify for the daily drawing.
