Multicultural Movement Month explores various cultures

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

Multicultural Movement Month, sponsored by the Department of Recreational Services, will explore differences in movement across cultures on three consecutive Mondays in February.

“Multicultural Movement Month will showcase different forms of movement and recreation through various cultures," said Bethany Massman, assistant director for fitness. “The events will educate students about the culture and meanings behind these recreation patterns.”

The Multicultural Movement Month programs are:

Feb. 10 - Explore the martial art of Tai Chi at 6 p.m. in the Group Fitness Room in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center (SAC). Tai Chi is practiced for defensive training and reaps many health benefits.

Feb. 17 - Dance and work out to the beats of hip hop at 6 p.m. in the SAC Group Fitness Room. This program will cover the history and progression of hip hop through the decades.

Feb. 24 - Join other Niners in the dance craze of Zumba at 5:30 p.m. in the SAC Group Fitness Room. Zumba incorporates dance styles from around the world, such as salsa, mambo and hip hop into an aerobic activity.
