Effective March 1, Lori McMahon will become the new associate provost for academic budget and personnel.

McMahon, who has 15 years of financial management experience, is director of business affairs in the College of Arts + Architecture. During her tenure with the college, which began in 2008, McMahon contributed to the launch of the College of Arts + Architecture, including organizational restructuring, programmatic and operational strategic planning and budgeting processes.  She is credited with instituting a unique, innovative management model within the college, and as a member of the college’s Executive Council, she led annual budgeting and resource allocation processes and provided benchmark analytics for strategic decision making. In addition, she managed recruitment, hiring and contracting and was responsible for communication strategies for staff and faculty on the use of new systems, business process improvements and policies.

“Lori’s management expertise and knowledge of UNC Charlotte will be invaluable as we address the challenges facing us in hiring and keeping great faculty and making the best possible use of our limited resources at this growing institution,” said Provost Joan Lorden.

Prior to joining UNC Charlotte, McMahon had extensive experience in the nonprofit and private sectors.  She has taught at UNC Charlotte, Youngstown State University, Miami University of Ohio, Case Western Reserve University and Slippery Rock University.

McMahon, who succeeds Ramah Carle, who retired in December, earned a Master of Business Administration from Queens University of Charlotte; her bachelor’s degree in art education is from Drake University.
