‘American Idol,’ ‘Voice’ alumna Frenchie Davis to perform

Thursday, January 30, 2014

Frenchie Davis, a former “American Idol” and “Voice” contestant, will perform at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.

Since her debut in 2003 on the second season of “American Idol,” Davis has performed in the Broadway production of “Rent,” a touring production of “Dreamgirls” and a contemporary touring version of “Ain’t Misbehavin’.” The singer earned a Grammy nomination in the category Best Musical Show Album for her performance in “Ain’t Misbehavin’” with season-two American Idol winner Ruben Studdard.

In 2011, Davis joined Christina Aguilera’s team on the first season of “The Voice,” a reality competition series; she placed fifth overall. Davis has since teamed with international singer and songwriter Janice Robinson to record her first single “Love’s Got a Hold on Me,” which will mark her dance pop debut.

Whitney Mitchell, student director of live music for the Campus Activities Board, which is sponsoring this free, public performance, said Davis’s voice is “dynamic and full of a beautiful energy that makes the audience want to sing and dance along with her. Her stage presence was phenomenal, and we knew we had to have her perform at campus.”
