N.C. Dance Festival coming to UNC Charlotte

The Department of Dance in the College of Arts + Architecture will host the North Carolina Dance Festival Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-25, in the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts.

Founded in 1991, the N.C. Dance Festival is an annual showcase of North Carolina dance artists that travels across the state. Each evening presents a different program of touring and local ensembles and choreographers.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $14, $9 (seniors) and $6 (students) and can be purchased by calling 704-687-1849.

The Jan. 24 presentation will feature Emily Daughtridge, Rodrigo and Wendy Jimenez, Jessi Knight Walker, Baran Dance, Jen Guy-Metcalf, Kim Jones (UNC Charlotte professor of dance) and ShaLeigh Comerford.

E.E. Balcos (UNC Charlotte associate professor of dance)/Deep Water Collaborations, Renay Aumiller, Oneaka Dance Company, Karola Luttringhaus, Eleanor Smith, Caroline Calouche & Co. and Ronald West will perform Jan. 25.

In addition to the performances at UNC Charlotte, the N.C. Dance Festival 2013-14 makes appearances in Boone, Greensboro, Raleigh and Wilmington. The festival is a division of Dance Project Inc., a nonprofit organization under the direction of Jan Van Dyke.
