VITA program offers free help with tax returns

Monday, January 13, 2014

Employees and students who earn less than $52,000 per year may be eligible for free access to tax preparation software and electronic filing.

UNC Charlotte’s VITA program, sponsored by the University’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter, is working with Community Link and IRS representatives to operate VITA sites at libraries and other community centers to provide free tax preparation assistance.

VITA student volunteers must pass IRS certification exams to participate in the program. For information on becoming a VITA volunteer email Jonathan Upham at jupham@uncc.edu.

Details on how to receive free tax assistance are on the Community Link website, look under “Financial Literacy.”
