Fifth annual 49ers for Life Blood Drive scheduled

Thursday, January 2, 2014

At the start of a new year, many people contemplate making resolutions. This year, members of the campus community can resolve to give blood on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in support of the fifth annual 49ers for Life Blood Drive.

A campus-wide event coordinated by a number of student organizations, the 49ers for Life Blood Drive is held in conjunction with the American Red Cross. Individuals can donate between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., Jan. 21, at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center. A goal of 1,000 pints has been set; however, if the University can top 1,315 pints donated, it will break the record of Appalachian State University.

According to organizers, donating one pint of blood can help to save the lives of up to three people, and blood drives are important, as every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood.

49ers for Life Blood Drive participants will receive a free commemorative T-shirt, a pint of Blue Bell ice cream and free food. Throughout the day, there will be giveaways. Individuals can make an appointment to donate online; use the sponsor code 49ers4Life. Donors with scheduled appointments will be entered in a drawing to win an iPad.
