The Office of International Programs is hosting the “Immigration Today Film and Discussion Forum,” a weekly event at 5:30 p.m., Mondays, through Nov. 18. The discussions are based upon “Harvest of Empire: The Untold Stories of Latinos in America,” a documentary film that explores the history of U.S. connections and immigration relationships to seven countries in Latin America, North America and the Caribbean.
Each session of the series will feature a facilitated discussion regarding immigration as it relates to a specific country. Graduate student Juan Pimentel-Otero will lead the Nov. 4 event on Puerto Rico in Friday Building, Room 132.
Ann Gonzalez from the Department of Languages and Culture Studies will lead the Nov. 11 discussion on Nicaragua in Friday Building, Room 132, and John Cox, global, international and area studies, will facilitate the Nov. 18 session on Guatemala and El Salvador in the Student Union Movie Theater. Both events start at 5:30 p.m.
Photojournalist Saul Flores will give a keynote presentation at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, during the University’s celebration of International Education Week in conjunction with this discussion series. He will present “Walk of the Immigrants” in the Fretwell Building, 100, in which he recounts his 5,320-mile journey through 10 countries in Central and South America.
