Recast as an open house, “A-Cone-A-Fair” makes a special return from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, throughout the Cone University Center to commemorate the building’s 50th anniversary. The event will highlight Cone Center’s history of student dedication, featuring historical exhibits and displays alongside the current student services that reside in the building.
“A-Cone-A-Fair” will include:
- Bite This: A Vendor Food Fair (sponsored by Chartwells)
- A Retro Arcade
- Tie-Dye Station (limited shirts available or bring your own items)
- Photo novelties
- Caricature and balloon artists
- Student performances
- Movies@McKnight
- Historical exhibits and displays
- Office open house activities
“Cone University Center continues to provide essential services as well as formal and informal gathering spaces for students and the campus community,” said Jerry Mann, executive director of Student Union and Cone University Center. “The building stands today as a powerful tribute to Bonnie Cone’s legacy in the founding of the University and her relentless dedication to student life at UNC Charlotte.”
The weeklong anniversary celebration also features the Chancellor’s CONE-vocation at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the Cone University Center, Lucas Room. Featured speakers include Chancellor Philip L. Dubois; Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Art Jackson; Board of Trustees member and former Student Body President Mike Wilson; SGA President Brady Nails and others.
The first Daisy Pearl Pugh Urban Scholarship, designated for an outstanding student employee, will be presented by the award namesake's son, Rob Urban.
Other events throughout the week include movies, student dance performances, a show by Nashville-based country band Scarletta and a viewing party for the final Charlotte 49ers home football game.
