Rowe and Storrs galleries will both hold receptions and artist talks for concurrent exhibitions on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Storrs Gallery will host an opening reception for “Primitive Parametric: Biology as an architectural catalyst” from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with artist talks at 6 p.m. “Primitive Parametric” grew out of a research project that explores biology and its procedural thinking in architecture through a series of expanded historical timelines that trace architectural biology back to the 19th century. Created by architecture faculty Chris Beorkrem, Charles Davis and Bryan Shields and graduate students Ryan Barkes, Nicole Brown, Taylor Milner and Nicole Rivera, the installation features maps, models, animations, collages and illustrative timelines. It will be displayed through Friday, Nov.29.
A closing reception in Rowe Galleries for “Liz Miller: Invasive Adornment” and “Shannon Collis: Frequencies” is from 5 to 7 p.m., with artists speaking at 5:30 p.m. Liz Miller’s “Invasive Adornment” mixes imagery from a diverse array of visual sources, including weapons, invasive species and elements of pattern, ornament and decoration. Digital and print media artist Shannon Collis creates visual-acoustic installations and interactive environments that explore the ways digital technologies transform our perception of sonic and visual stimuli. The final day of these shows is Oct. 30.
