Atkins Library to observe Open Access Week

Atkins Library to observe Open Access Week
Wednesday, October 16, 2013

International Open Access Week is Monday, Oct. 21, through Sunday, Oct. 27, and the J. Murrey Atkins Library will hold a number of public events to promote the open access movement in the publishing of scientific and scholarly literature.

Peter Suber from the Harvard University Office of Scholarly Communications is a leading voice in the Open Access Movement. His definition of open access has been accepted widely in the academic publishing world – open access literature is digital, online, free of charge and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions. He will present a Web conference at 2 p.m., Oct. 23, in Atkins Library, Room 273.

There also will be information sessions and other webinars throughout the week on a variety of topics, such as “Measuring Impact and Changing Scholarly Practices” and “Researchers’ Guide to NIH Open Access Mandate.”  A schedule is on the Web.

Atkins Library also plans to hold an Open Access Symposium on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 4-5.
