The Office of Women’s Programs is sponsoring an exhibit of paintings by Erika Clarke to generate awareness about October being Relationship Violence Awareness Month. The display will be through Friday, Nov. 1, on the second floor of the Student Union.
The Domestic Violence Art Exhibit features seven acrylic paintings by Clarke. The works attempt to give the audience a real look at the effect of domestic violence.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. October has since become the awareness month for relationship violence to help connect advocates across the nation who work to end relationship violence.
Princess King, assistant director for minority student support and women’s programs, said Clarke’s works “evoke emotions of empowerment and hope.” She added the exhibit will offer the campus community an opportunity to view domestic violence awareness through a different lens.
