Education dean on task force to study N.C. teacher pay

Ellen McIntyre, dean of the UNC Charlotte College of Education, along with three local legislators has been appointed to a task force that will study North Carolina teacher pay.

According to an article in the Charlotte Observer, an 18-member task force has been created to study incentives to recruit and keep effective educators. The group is to report back to the General Assembly by April 15.

Nine members of the task force, appointed by Thom Tillis, speaker of the N.C. House of Representatives, were recently announced. In addition to McIntyre, Tillis’ appointees were area legislators Rep. Rob Bryan (R-Mecklenburg), Rep. Tricia Cotham (D-Mecklenburg) and Rep. Craig Horn (R-Union).  He also named Timothy Barnsback, president of the Professional Educators of North Carolina; Rebecca Garland, chief academic officer, N.C. Department of Public Instruction; Rep. George Graham, a Democrat from Kinston; teacher Richard Nixon; and principal Michael Putney.
