Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Pamela Rudisill was named recently as UNC Charlotte’s Distinguished Nursing Alumna by the University’s School of Nursing Alumni Chapter.

Dona Haney (’69, ’79), chapter president, noted, “Throughout her career, Pam has proven to be an outstanding advocate for nursing and patient safety.”

The Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award is bestowed upon an alumnus or alumna who has made outstanding contributions to the University’s School of Nursing or who has been recognized for exceptional achievement at the national, state or local levels.

Rudisill, a graduate of the bachelor of science in nursing and master of science in nursing programs, currently serves as vice president and chief nursing executive at Health Management Associates Inc. She is responsible for developing and articulating the vision and strategic direction for the delivery of patient care and the practice of nursing for the company’s 70 hospitals. Her accomplishments include the successful implementation of a patient safety program to improve patient care across the enterprise. She also served as vice president of nursing and patient safety for four years before being appointed to her present position in 2012.

During employment at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Rudisill successfully led the hospital’s effort to achieve American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition, a program that recognizes organizations for quality patient care. Lake Norman Regional was one of fewer than 395 U.S. hospitals to achieve this distinction.

As a scholar, Rudisill has published extensively in nursing literature, including Advance for Nurses, the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, Heart and Lung, Journal of Nursing Care Quality, Applied Nursing Research, Critical Care Clinics of North America, Nurse Leader and Voice of Nursing Leadership.

An active member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), Rudisill has served an elected three-year term on the national Board of Directors. She currently represents AONE on the AHA Committee on Performance Improvement.

Rudisill is a board certified nursing administrator advanced and was a fellow inductee into the American Academy of Nursing in 2011.

“I think the Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award is a great way to recognize the wonderful contributions our alumni have made to healthcare and improving the lives of others,” said Dee Baldwin, associate dean and director of the School of Nursing. “Our University has produced many exceptional graduates who have made major strides in the field of nursing.”

The School of Nursing is one of four units that comprise the College of Health and Human Services.
