Annual Family Day to coincide with Homecoming

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

UNC Charlotte’s annual Family Day will take place as part of Homecoming, set for Feb. 2. A tradition since the early 1990s, Family Day encourages parents and family members to come to campus for a day of fun-filled activities.

“Parents and family members look forward to this day all year long,” said Kesha Williams, assistant director for parent and family services. “It’s an opportunity for parents to really see the 49er spirit in action and camaraderie that the students share with their University.  It also is great to see how the chancellor and other University employees support the parent and family members and students.”

Family Day starts at 8:30 a.m. in Student Union, Room 200.  The Chancellor’s Breakfast begins at 9 a.m. in the Student Union Multipurpose Room as guests share a meal with college deans, University administrators and faculty.

After breakfast, parents can tailgate before the Charlotte 49ers take on the University of Massachusetts Minutemen in the Homecoming basketball game.  Niner Nation Family will have a tent for all Family Day guests and student organizations will be present.  Entertainment will be provided. The game begins at 2 p.m. in Halton Arena.

Parents and family members can view the Family Day schedule and register online.  All events are free for UNC Charlotte students.  If students choose to sit in the section with their parents, their game tickets are $10 and may be included with the online parent registration.
