Chancellor’s Office to host ACE Fellow

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

A new face in the Chancellor’s Office arrives Monday, Jan. 14. Alan Shoho will spend the spring semester on campus as part of a fellowship experience through the American Council on Education (ACE). As an ACE Fellow, he will be mentored by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois and Provost Joan Lorden, and he will be an active participant in many high-level administrative functions of the University.

Shoho has been a professor of educational leadership and policy studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio for the past 18 years. His research focuses on aspiring principals and assistant principals, high school social processes and organizational cultures. He earned an Ed.D. at Arizona State University, M.Ed. at the University of Hawaii and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at California State University at Fullerton.

“After visiting UNC Charlotte and meeting with Chancellor Dubois and his team, I am convinced that the experience at UNC Charlotte will provide me with many of the tools I will need as I move forward with my career in higher education,” said Shoho.

Now in its 48th year, the ACE Fellows Program is widely recognized as the premiere higher education leadership development program in the United States. It exists to enhance institutional capacity and to create a diverse pool of leaders who are capable of achieving and maintaining excellence and equity in higher education; and it does so by providing a rich and practical educational experience for emerging leaders in higher education, which benefits not only the ACE Fellow but the nominating and host institutions as well.

“We look forward to having Dr. Shoho on campus as a valued member of our team. We will certainly benefit from his energy and fresh perspective, and we hope he will benefit from his time with us as well,” said Dubois. “If you see him around campus, please be sure to extend a warm UNC Charlotte welcome.”
