Mexico’s consul general to speak

Carlos Flores, consul general of Mexico, will deliver a presentation at 12:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, in Atkins Library, Halton Reading Room, as part of the 2012-13 International Speaker Series.

Flores will discuss U.S.-Mexico relationships as one of the culminating events for the week-long campus celebration of International Education Week.

A ranking ambassador with the Mexican foreign service, Flores was appointed by President Felipe Calderon in October 2009 as the first consul general of Mexico to serve in the Carolinas. His prior assignment was consul general of Mexico in Phoenix, Ariz., from January 2004 to August 2009. Before that, he served as consul of Mexico in Tucson.

Flores received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and he obtained a master’s from the University of Paris III. He has taught at UNAM and at the University of the Americas in Mexico City.
